The call for El Canal’s 2027 Resident Companies Programme is now open.
It is a new opportunity for artists, companies, collectives and performing arts professionals from the local, national and international scenes who are developing live arts projects in the production phase and are looking for a place to grow, rehearse, test ideas and bring their proposal to completion.
Through this call, El Canal will select up to six projects, which will be able to undertake a residency in the centre’s different spaces throughout 2027 and will receive an artistic co-production grant of €14,900 plus VAT, as well as technical support during the creation process. Applications are open from 2 to 16 June.
The programme is aimed at creators and companies working across any language of contemporary performing arts who need a context of work, support and exchange to move their project forward. Residencies may take place in the Sala d’Acabats, the Sala d’Assaig, the Sala Kropotkin and also in the Nau Guixeres, a space newly incorporated this year and especially suited to circus and outdoor arts projects.
Beyond supporting creation, the Resident Companies Programme also strengthens El Canal’s role as a place for artistic development, accompaniment and connection between contemporary creation and local communities. For this reason, the selected companies will commit to carrying out three mediation activities open to the public, designed to share creative processes, generate exchange and bring contemporary performing arts languages closer to the community.
Projects will be assessed according to their artistic interest, their feasibility, the quality of the proposed mediation activities, their connection to the cultural life of Salt and Girona, and the use of the Catalan language. The selection will be made by a technical and artistic committee made up of eight professionals from creation centres, theatres and festivals at national and international level. Companies that have already held co-produced projects with El Canal in the 2024-2025 and 2025-2026 periods are not eligible to apply.
With this new call, El Canal continues to strengthen its role as a key space for contemporary performing arts creation in the Girona region and across Catalonia, supporting projects at crucial stages of development and building connections between artists, territory and audiences.
The resident companies from the 2025-2026 period — including Maria Jover i Gerard Franch, Cultura i Conflicte, LaSADCUM, PSIRC, Kamchàtka and Xavier Bobés — reflect the diversity of languages, formats and artistic approaches that have recently passed through El Canal and found here a fertile context in which to develop their work.
Guidelines, terms and application form are available on El Canal’s website.
