Emerging artists program
El Canal—Centre for the Creation of the Performing Arts in Salt—is a public space dedicated to creation, experimentation, and artistic research. With this public mission, El Canal supports the professional performing-arts sector by providing spaces, resources, and mentoring to artistic teams at every stage of their projects.
In this spirit, El Canal runs several creation-support programmes, each tailored to the needs and phases of different projects. Within this framework, a new programme for emerging companies is launched, broadening our scope and welcoming the next generation of creators entering the professional performing-arts landscape.
A development program for emerging artists
El Canal is expanding its creation-support ecosystem with a new programme aimed at emerging companies in the early stages of their professional journey. It is a pivotal moment—rich in potential yet often fragile—where targeted mentoring and resources can be decisive. The programme offers space, resources, and tailored accompaniment to help companies consolidate their work, fostering professionalisation and sector visibility for their projects.
This programme is addressed to companies identified by El Canal’s team at professional fairs, emerging-creation festivals, or performing-arts training centres—based on final projects or public showings that demonstrate clear talent, commitment, and artistic potential.
Unlike the centre’s other support programmes, this strand does not open via a public call; it operates by direct invitation. Selected companies receive a bespoke collaboration proposal tailored to their creative needs and the stage of their project.
Selection is carried out in close coordination with partner creation spaces and events with which El Canal has collaboration agreements, sharing the aim of identifying and supporting new artistic voices. The programme lasts one year, during which the different areas of mentoring and support are deployed.
What we offer
-
Financial contribution: €10,000 + VAT, formalised through a co-production agreement with El Canal. This funding supports project development and provides stability for the creative process at this early stage.
-
Work and rehearsal spaces: facilities and technical resources tailored to each project’s needs (both technical and scheduling), within one or more artistic/technical residencies that ensure continuity and coherence throughout the process.
-
Artistic, technical and production mentoring + visibility: the El Canal team accompanies the company across the entire journey, providing tools and guidance to strengthen the creation, structure the work, and enhance sector visibility — with up to 75 hours of dedicated support from specialised professionals.
The meaning of the Program
With this new programme, El Canal opens its support structure to new generations of artists and companies, offering a professional, approachable and stimulating framework in which to grow. It is a commitment to identifying and accompanying emerging talent, building bridges between the educational and professional spheres, and thus contributing to the renewal and vitality of the performing arts sector.
The programme is developed in close collaboration with other creation spaces, festivals and events dedicated to new stage creation, fostering joint work and cooperation among sector stakeholders to strengthen the territory’s creative fabric and give visibility and momentum to emerging projects.
