Circus School La Guixera

The Circus School La Guixera is a project that seeks to make Salt a reference municipality in the training and professionalization of the circus. The school has been created in three parties between the Col·lectiu de Professionals del Circ de Girona (CPCG), the Federació d’Entitats Socioculturals de Salt and the El Canal Performing Arts Creation Center. The three entities are working together to create this new circus space with a powerful and extensive training proposal for children, young people and adults, and with a training and support space for professional artists. In addition to being a space for training, promotion and professionalization of the circus, the Circus School is therefore considered as a social and cultural agent of the territory, generator of meeting spaces and community fabric and capable of broading the active participation of citizens.

Areas of action

Training for the community

Through the training courses, the Circus School aspires to create a learning space that is both a cultural and social asset. The school seeks to be an agent actively involved with the population of Salt through the offer of courses and workshops aimed at children, young people and adults, and with the participation and presence in the festivities and the day-to-day life of the town of Salt.

The project wants to bring the circus closer to the cultural and social diversity of the territory. With a wide training offer that covers the different aspects of the circus discipline, the school aims to be part of the cultural fabric and, with the circus at its center, to be an agent of cohesion and social inclusion.

Support for the professional group

The project also wants to create a structure that houses and supports the artists of the area and that enhances the professional growth of the companies in the territory. This results in the creation of a suitable space for training in the Coma Cros Factory’s Naus Guixeres, the accompaniment and advice of professionals through training and the hosting of spaces for reflection, group shows and specialized courses for circus professionals.

In the professional field, the school aspires to be a meeting place for companies linked to the CPCG and other circus groups in the territory.

Courses and workshops

The Circus School La Guixera offers a program of activities with quarterly registration  throughout the school year. These courses are aimed at children, young people and non-professional adults and revolve around the circus and the artistic disciplines that derive from it.

The school also anticipates its presence at the various festivities and fairs in the city to weave and expand the circus community, and intends to continue celebrating the Circus Gala, started in 2019 and organized once a year.

Location

The school is located in Les Naus Guixeres, behind the Coma Cros Cultural Factory building, a space where various cultural and educational entities live together, opening up a range of opportunities for collaborations and synergies. Provisionally, the school’s activities take place in Nau 10, but the aim is to move them to the new space in Nau 2 as a stable location.

Nau 2 is one of the four creation rooms of El Canal, specifically adapted to be the space specialized in circus and street arts. From September 2023, the training and workshops, the complementary activities of the school and the rehearsals of the companies and artists envisaged by the project will take place there.
