Sociedad Doctor Alonso
Doctor Alonso Society, directed by Tomás Aragay (theatre director and playwright) and Sofía Asencio (dancer and choreographer), has built a language that finds one of its fundamental keys in the concept of displacement.
The company proposes to investigate the way in which displacement modifies language, when something is placed outside its proper place, scope or space, both in terms of its constitutive grammar and in terms of the reading that an observer can do. This displacement maneuver has been revealed as an effective tool for generating spaces of poetic discourse that question the status quo of our understanding of reality: displacement to reveal something.
The choice of the artistic team by the company is based on the sharing of a whole set of key principles, which give meaning to the practice of its last years.
The team is made up of people whose artistic potential they value, who stand out for their unique personality and for the relationship they establish with the scene. Otherwise, they are characterized by work based on experimentation, research and heterodoxy. However, what they really share is the fun they have working together.
Hospital de campo
Residency July – August 2024
Are we all sick?
When we wonder about the nature of the diseases that we carry, and that appear both in our bodies and in our psyches, we draw a ground or a kind of common feature. We can define it as the trace of the abandonment of the subjective dimension of our bodily existence.
Based on the fact that in the health field, a series of separations are constantly reproduced (between the body and the mind, between the individual and the collective, between the individual and its environment, between the visible and the invisible), which have given rise to a strange relationship with our own bodies, Field Hospital formally explores this rupture.
At Hospital de Campo, the spectators/patients are treated by the doctors/puppets, protagonists of the “cures” that the hospital offers to sick visitors. Interpreters act as mediators.
The Doctor Alonso Society in recent years of research has carried out a work of re-meaning the theatre, its mechanisms and margins. To do this, they have looked at certain everyday contexts that are built from a structure of “representation” within what we call reality. Processes and contexts that, by being crumbled and put under the “theatrical” lens, have allowed them to generate new devices from which to observe the mechanisms of the theater.
On this occasion they put the focus on the figure of the shaman, the doctor, the healer, those who allow you to come into contact with your own weakness, in a way analogous to the function of the theater.
In this way, they look at the spaces and social devices intended to receive people who suffer physically and mentally: hospitals. Hospitals as generators of realities, through a code. A language of its own and a ritual, its own protocol.
