Somrics Gael
Somrics Gael is an emerging contemporary theatre company based in Barcelona that works at the intersection of body, objects, visual dramaturgy and physical theatre. Its stage universe is oriented towards hybrid forms that combine movement, visual poetry and the manipulation of everyday elements, with particular attention to the construction of atmospheres and to the capacity of materials to generate meaning. This way of understanding the stage stems from an open and collaborative artistic direction, where dialogue between disciplines is essential and the body functions as the initial driving force of exploration.
Its first creation, Arnau, inaugurates the company’s artistic line: pieces that take apparently everyday situations as their starting point in order to open cracks towards universes where identity, perception, consciousness and the relationship between the individual and their environment come into play. The project is born from a simple yet deeply powerful obsession: that of an individual who, after taking out the rubbish, searches for his keys in his pockets in front of his house and cannot find them. This repetitive and banal gesture becomes the trigger for an absurd tragedy and an existential whirlwind.
Arnau

ARNAU is a hybrid piece written and directed by Txiki Blasi and performed by Aravind TM, Nahomi Itzel and Txiki Blasi in a physical deployment that moves across the boundaries between dance, theatre and poetry. The central character is a completely isolated being, incapable of asking for help despite having the possibility to do so. Faced with the impossibility of getting back into the house and relating to the outside world, they ritualise their routine until it becomes a sacred space closed in on itself. This everyday blockage unleashes a progressive decomposition of the self, which the piece makes visible through the body and the scenic artefact.
One of the project’s most suggestive axes is its relationship with the city. The proposal seeks to build a fully visual and gestural dramaturgy through bodily movement and spatial and sound composition, avoiding words —which only appear at the end— in order to explore how architecture shapes our psychology and reveals our condition as domesticated beings. The scenographic device is conceived to embody the entrance hall of a building and to engage in dialogue with recycled materials found in the streets of urban centres. ARNAU does not only want to speak about the city, but to make it present on stage as a fundamental part of its dramaturgy.

The residency at El Canal is part of the project’s next stage of development, following an initial dramaturgical phase consolidated at La Gleva Teatre. The company arrives there with the intention of continuing to investigate the staging and of preparing the piece for presentation in larger venues, while also keeping open the possibility of exploring a site-specific version in more direct dialogue with urban space.
