On Saturday 11 July, Salt’s Espai de Circ La Guixera will host a special edition of Circ en Família, developed entirely in Catalan Sign Language (LSC). The initiative is the result of a collaboration between LSC.Circ and the Col·lectiu de Professionals de Circ de Girona (CPCG), with the support of La Guixera, the Ateneu Popular de Salt, El Canal and Salt City Council.
This proposal is much more than a one-off activity: it is a first shared experience designed to explore the potential of circus as a tool for inclusion, accessibility and community participation, while also laying the foundations for future inclusive and accessible circus projects across the Girona region. In this sense, the event aims to open up new ways of accessing circus for deaf and signing communities, while creating a real meeting point between artistic practice, community life and cultural accessibility.
In recent years, LSC.Circ has developed a specific methodology to adapt circus pedagogy and practice to Catalan Sign Language, generating tools and resources that make a fully accessible experience possible. This trajectory now meets that of the CPCG, an organisation working to promote, strengthen and grow the circus sector across the Girona region.
The activity is aimed at children, young people and adults, as well as circus professionals, people working in the social and educational fields, and anyone interested in circus, cultural accessibility and LSC. Throughout the session, participants will be able to try different circus disciplines, including juggling, balance work and movement games, in an environment designed for discovery, participation and shared communication. The whole activity will take place in Catalan Sign Language and is also conceived as a space for exchange between the deaf community, the circus sector and professionals working in the field of social inclusion.
For the CPCG, this initiative is part of a broader commitment to new lines of work linked to social circus, community participation and cultural accessibility. The collaboration with LSC.Circ creates an opportunity to incorporate new methodologies and generate projects that help make circus an increasingly open, diverse and accessible artistic practice.
