Festival Z

Since 2022 edition, El Canal collaborates with the Festival Z, the live arts show in Girona aimed at the young viewer and creator. The support for the creation and the accompaniment of creative processes, a backbone of El Canal, is also a key element of the Festival Z. Both entities agree on the desire to improve the working conditions and the professionalization of the music sector performing arts and to encourage the creation of young artists from the Girona area.

The festival offers public calls where companies and collectives can present their artistic proposals in the creation phase to qualify for creative residencies or artistic works already developed to be able to exhibit them during the festival. The Festival Z program also includes professional activities that serve as a meeting, discussion and debate point for the performing arts sector. Along these lines, El Canal offers Festival Z its spaces for the relevant residencies, exhibitions, activities and debate circles scheduled within the framework of the festival. In addition, El Canal also makes available to the festival its technical staff and part of its financial resources to support the artistic accompaniment and production and dissemination of the projects of the resident companies within the framework of the festival.

Created by the non-profit organization Fundació Privada Joan Bosch, the Festival Z is a live arts exhibition of shows created by and for young people, a platform to accompany and promote stage materials produced in Catalonia with a special attention to those born in the province of Girona. The festival is also defined as a space for professional dialogue that encourages reflection on young creativity and that was born with the desire to contribute to the visibility and professionalization of the stage sector under 30 years old and resident in Catalonia.
