El Canal in Salt is opening a new call for the 2027 Espais de Creació Programme, a support line for artists, companies and collectives wishing to develop creation, research or technical development processes in the centre’s spaces during the coming year.

Now in its fourth edition, the programme consolidates a stable line of support for contemporary creation. Over the three previous editions, 86 companies and projects have undertaken residencies at El Canal, strengthening the centre’s role as a reference space for the development of artistic processes connected to live arts, circus, dance and hybrid stage languages.

The call is aimed at artists, companies, collectives and groups working in the field of live arts who wish to carry out an artistic or technical residency between January and December 2027. The programme offers logistical and technical support, access to working spaces and accompaniment throughout the residency process, with a maximum of 15 selected projects.

Spaces to research, test and develop creative processes

Selected companies will be able to develop their projects in the Sala d’Acabats, the Sala d’Assaig, the Sala Kropotkin and the Nau Guixeres, a new space incorporated this year into El Canal’s residency programme and especially suited to circus and street arts projects.

The call includes residencies designed for different stages of the creative process: project development, research, technical residencies or adaptations of existing works. Its aim is to provide spaces and working conditions so that companies can research, rehearse, test materials, advance the technical dimension of their projects or prepare new phases of creation.

Selected projects will also share their process with the public through open showings and activities linked to mediation and to bringing contemporary creation processes closer to audiences. This community dimension is part of El Canal’s understanding of residencies: not only as a time for internal work, but also as an opportunity to build relationships with the territory, open up questions and share processes before they reach presentation circuits.

Selection criteria

Projects will be assessed according to criteria such as the artistic interest of the proposal, the strength of the creative team, its connection with the territory, the overall feasibility of the project and its relationship with El Canal’s values: sustainability, intersectionality, translocality and cultural rights.

The use of the Catalan language and the suitability of the project for the available spaces and resources will also be taken into account. The call is open to individuals, legal entities, collectives and groups linked to creation in the field of live arts.

Applications may be submitted between 16 and 30 May. The guidelines, forms and all further information are available on El Canal’s website:
