Rusó Sala
From a very young age, play became for Rusó Sala a free and constant practice that, over time, crystallised into a passion: making music and writing songs. Since composing her first song in Budapest, La flama, included on her self-produced debut La ciutat imaginària (2009), the craft of being a singer-songwriter has been at the centre of her artistic path. She won the XIV Concurs d’Horta-Guinardó and the 32nd Certamen de la Cançó de Salitja. This opened up a period of travels to Italy, with several tours leading up to the recording of her second album, Mar endins (Fresh Sound, 2013), in collaboration with Italian jazz pianist Kekko Fornarelli: a meeting point between Mediterranean singer-songwriter music and Nordic jazz.
In 2013 she met Sardinian guitarist Caterinangela Fadda. After receiving the Premio Parodi for Best Performance (Cagliari, Sardinia) and the Premi Pino Piras for Best Song for La meva terra (Alghero), they recorded together her third album, Fil del coure (Microscopi, 2015). From this point on, the artist’s interest in Mediterranean sonorities became explicit, driving her to delve deeper into roots music in order to distil its essence and incorporate it into her repertoire: Sephardic songs (with the complicity of Rosa Zaragoza, with whom she has shared stages since 2010), Arab-Andalusian chants (thanks to Algerian musician Amine Tilioua) and Iberian tradition (with the Iberian Percussion Orchestra Coetus, where she has sung since 2017).
In November 2017 she toured several cities in Argentina (ExiB Música – Circuito Argentina 2017), also travelled to Portugal and Poland, and maintained a constant presence on stages in her home country. At the end of that year she began production of her fourth album together with percussionist Aleix Tobias and multi-instrumentalist Míriam Encinas. The result is Desirem (Microscopi, 2019), an exciting, fresh and elegant project that pushes the boundaries of the singer-songwriter genre, premiered on 22 March 2019 at Luz de Gas (Barcelona) as part of the Barnasants festival.
Along the way, she has collaborated with artists such as Bente Kahan, Rosa Zaragoza, Clara Peya, Tànit Navarro, Giulia Valle, Sakapatú, Joan Isaac, Ian Sala, among others.
La Figueral
Residency January 2026
Rusó Sala presents La Figueral, a musical work written for seven women’s voices and percussion. Created, arranged and directed by herself, it is inspired by and based on the traditional Iberian repertoire (in Catalan and Spanish) and on newly composed pieces. A poetic, ecofeminist proposal that awakens visions of future worlds that are more pleasurable and liveable._
On stage, seven women’s bodies are rooted in the landscapes that shape them. Defying the frenetic pace that throws us off balance, La Figueral unfolds unhurried soundscapes that revisit tradition and break into a contemporary stage present where the sound space, performative action and light interact.
“I leave marvelling at this polyphonic choral piece, La Figueral, captained by Rusó Sala. How beautiful and how powerful. It exudes at once sensitivity and energy, delicacy and boldness. Tradition and empowerment.”
JORDI ORIOL, playwright and director
La Figueral is a choral work for women’s voices and percussion created, arranged and directed by Rusó Sala. It draws on the traditional Iberian repertoire (in Catalan and Spanish) and places it in dialogue with newly created pieces. On stage, seven voices distil tenderness and courage, rooting themselves in the landscapes that have shaped them. The polyphony is transcribed into space and bodies: sound moves, light breathes and performative action brings shared memory into the present. A collective song that challenges the frenetic pace of our time and invites us to listen together.
