El Canal took part this spring in the EKO Hackathon, an international gathering of creation and reflection around sustainable contemporary circus, held at La Grainerie – scène conventionnée (Toulouse), as part of the European project EKO – Pyrenees of Circus.
For three days, companies and creation centres from the cross-border territories (Occitania, Catalonia, the Basque Country, Aragon and Nouvelle-Aquitaine) shared processes, presentations and pitch sessions to define common strategies for mobility, support and production. The aim: to weave a more sustainable cross-border circuit for creation and performance, one that cares for both artistic projects and their environmental and social impact.
In this context, El Canal presented its work as a space for residencies and long-term artistic support, as well as its commitment to sustainability in the performing arts. We took part in the accompaniment of several companies and shared reflections and strategies alongside agents from across the EKO network.
The event was also an opportunity to strengthen ties with creators from different regions, discover the 15 selected projects that are part of the programme, and welcome the four companies that will develop a residency at El Canal over the coming months: Non Sin Tri (France) with “Ça turne”, DeClick with “Frágiles” (Aragon), Companyia Eia with “Secrets” (Catalonia), and Cia Rouge Elea (Basque Country) with “Lurruna”.
In addition, Accidental Company has been selected to receive a direct co-production with El Canal for their project Nemesis.
The EKO – Pyrenees of Circus project is a cross-border cooperation initiative coordinated by La Grainerie and co-funded by the Interreg POCTEFA programme and the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). In Catalonia, it includes participation from centres such as La Central del Circ and El Canal – Performing Arts Creation Centre in Salt.
With this project, we continue to reinforce our commitment to a rooted, globally connected, and context-aware performing arts scene, through collaborative alliances, shared spaces for reflection and networks focused on people, practices, and the ecosystems that make them possible.
We keep working towards a more responsible, interconnected and creative future for circus.
