The dramaturgy days are a space for debate and a kitchen of ideas to permeate our future creations. We have designed what we want to be points of meeting and reflection around topics that are often present in our thoughts when we face theatrical writing. The third edition of the Dramaturgy Days consists of two parts. On the one hand, a meeting between professionals around the theme of ‘Transcending artifice’ and, on the other hand, a selection of workshops and talks related to the craft of dramaturgy.
TRANSCEND ARTIFICE
Wednesday 20 November 2024
It is dangerous to naturalize the term ‘artificial intelligence’ when there is no consensus on what intelligence is. What does it say about human intelligence that strictly mechanical processes seem more and more human to us? And if the so-called generative creativity puts on the table the mediocrity of a good part of the current creation?
More than a real threat to a profession that is already precarious enough, the new technological paradigm highlights issues such as the social demand for innovation, creative hyper-productivity and solipsism of thought.
This year, the meeting between professionals combines spaces for reflection and debate with work dynamics. In the morning, the artists of the ‘Berenguera’ project will share various resources that the great language models (LLM) can offer us. Avoiding the great dystopian or utopian stories, they propose using these tools as a dramaturgical resource and creative stimulation from a critical perspective. Before diving into practice, they will draw a brief map of the different models, companies or projects that make up the state of the art of AI.
Next, the playwrights Jordi Casanovas and Carla Rovira will propose a debate based on the main lines of reflection of the day: the idea of transcending artifice, both in terms of the creative possibilities that open up, and in terms of some of the frailties of the profession that the artificial intelligence paradigm highlights.
In the afternoon, the El Canal team will present the new Anonymous Authors project, which aims to provide ongoing support and resources to playwrights. In this space, the professionals who participate will be able to make contributions that will help to finish shaping the proposal that will come into operation from next year. Finally, the postmedia artist Quelic Berga will close the session with a proposal for collective digestion of some of the key ideas of the day, based on a review of the piece Babel Quantic.
