The show Orelles by Marga Socias & Els Mals Endreços has won the Moritz Award of FiraTàrrega for the best premiere of street arts 2023. The work is a co-production of El Canal and the months of April and May 2023 the company did a residency with us to work on sound and lighting aspects of the piece.
Orelles is a street show-concert that takes place in a caravan converted into a music box. With irony and a lot of humor, the piece is transformed into a game that makes us reflect on how we listen and how we want to be heard with the audience’s participation as a fundamental axis. The proposal of the Catalan company Marga Socias & Els Mals Endreços has been one of the twelve pieces that in this edition has been part of Suport a la Creació, the accompaniment program to scenic creation processes of FiraTàrrega whose objective is production, exhibition and distribution of shows with special attention to non-conventional street art proposals.
Marga Socias acts, writes and creates shows. He likes stories and especially likes to tell them. It starts from everyday life, from its cracks and what it does, due to its complexity and extent, is unclassifiable. But there is one constant: he seeks to create experiences for others. On this occasion, the artist has joined forces with Els Mals Endreços, an aesthetic proposal based on the art of the unexpected and the democratization of spaces through culture. The company questions the limits of labels and cultural products, halfway between concert, performance, improvisation, contemporary creation and the exploration of new techniques. The two companies have joined forces to create Orelles, a participatory listening experience that invites the public to participate, subvert listening and make it infinite.
The award, which recognizes the good work and creativity of the companies, is awarded by FiraTàrrega taking into account the criteria of the professionals of the sector accredited in the last edition. On this occasion, up to 170 professionals participated in the voting to choose this recognition. The most recent winners of FiraTàrrega’s Moritz Prize for the best street art premiere have been Un segundo bajo la arena by the Col·lectiu Desasosiego (2022), Migrare de la Cia. Maduixa (2021), Peix de la Cia. Hotel iocandi (2019), Hippos de Zum Zum Teatre and Quim Bigas (2018), Conseqüències of the Cia. Moveo (2017), Mulïer de la Cia.
