On March 15, April 5, May 2 and June 8, the first edition of the Dramaturgy Seminars was held at El Canal, meetings for debate and reflection between professional playwrights. The ideas, experiences and opinions that were shared in those four days have been collected in a report that can now be consulted openly for everyone here. The document collects the needs, concerns, doubts, obstacles and day-to-day experiences of the Girona and Catalan playwrights who participated in these days and who put on the table those four days.

The Dramaturgy Seminars’ initiative was headed by the playwright Jordi Casanovas and was organized by a group of playwrights from the Girona area formed by Aleix Fauró, Lara Díez, Ferran Joanmiquel, Marta Aran, Xavi Morató, Carla Rovira, Àlex Mañas, Marta Solé, Clàudia Cedó and Llàtzer Garcia. The evident need of these playwrights to have a space to share, debate and reflect together with the involvement of El Canal to offer their spaces and get engaged in the organization of the initiative, made these seminars possible. Each of them was focused on a different theme: autofiction, non-fiction and fiction; utopia and dystopia; inclusion and cultural appropriation; and the global versus the local.

Given the success of the conference, El Canal plans to hold a second edition and organize more activities around the most pristine stage of theatrical creation: dramaturgy.
