Maria Antònia Roig
Maria Antònia Roig embarks on her first full-length solo piece, after having developed other solo works following her training at CAC Rogelio Rivel. Specialized in acrobatics and acro-dance, she is currently part of two companies: Xeixa (acro-dance) and Ploma (vertical dance). Now back living in Mallorca after eight years in Catalonia, she is eager to explore a new creation blending circus and territory.

Everything has a beginning. Everything has its raw material. Even the most advanced technologies or the most processed foods. Everything comes from something simple, basic —and self-sufficient.
This piece —show, or perhaps something else— draws inspiration from that simplicity. The idea is to build a world of beauty from the most elemental things that surround us.
Some logs, many meters of esparto rope, a space, a body, and clothes on the verge of becoming rags.
Perhaps a voice, perhaps a noise —we’ll see. And from there, hours and hours of doing the same thing, pushing against the immediacy I’ve grown used to living with, slowly shaping what I still don’t know it will become.
Maria Antònia Roig’s proposal was selected through the open call launched jointly by Teatre Principal de Palma, El CINE de Sineu, and El Canal (Center for Performing Arts Creation in Salt), to host a creative residency for circus artists and companies from the Balearic Islands.
The residency will take place in September 2025 at El Canal in Salt and is part of the 2024–25 Residency Programme of Teatre Principal de Palma. The initiative offers a total stay of four weeks: two in Mallorca (shared between the Teatre Principal and El CINE de Sineu) and two at El Canal, with artistic guidance and financial and technical support from all three institutions.
Through this interterritorial collaboration, El Canal strengthens its commitment to supporting artistic creation and promoting shared residency networks, encouraging mobility and the visibility of emerging artists.
