Los Galindos

Bet Garrell (1968) and Marcel Escolano (1967)
National Culture Award 2016

Los Galindos was born from a synergy of restless research and youthful energy. They are directly influenced by the era of collective creation and are, in a way, heirs to the spirit of freedom of the independent theatre that came before them.

Inspired by the poetics and fantastic imagery of circus, they have been captivated by the challenge of self-surpassing, the need for complicity and the possibility of living and expressing themselves in freedom, grounded both in ongoing learning and in professional rigour.

Over these twenty-nine years of travelling, they have moved through different creative territories. The human movement inherent in company life positioned Bet and Marcel as the natural leaders of the project. The first twelve years as a troupe of flying trapeze artists, acrobats, multi-skilled jugglers and eccentric performers propelled the company onto the international scene.

The year 2003 marked a turning point and, from then on, they have continued the project as an artistic duo.

Since 2011, new ambitions have finally pushed them towards an old desire: to present their projects in la Iurta, a Mongolian yurt nine metres in diameter with a capacity for 100 spectators, where they have created their last six shows, seeking revolutionary poetics, generational transmission and carefully crafted staging.

It is a confrontation between the individual and their own capacities, which is precisely where they feel circus allows them to be free and honest. Embracing circularity, they can break all lines and walk along the threshold of possibility.

As a nomadic art form, circus has taken them across many geographies and, at the same time, allowed them to travel through different emotional landscapes between creation, learning and transmission. They have developed an artistic project with a distinctive imprint, where their craft demands a deeply committed exploration of the stage.

Residency March, April and May 2026

Inspired by the poetics and fantastic imagery of circus, the collective orients itself towards the challenge of self-surpassing, complicity and freedom of expression.
They seek to understand the essence of a craft, an art form and an architectural, corporate, infrastructural and communicative “mechanics” —both human and productive— in order to confront risk from different perspectives. They use the various techniques and artifices of the circus arts to express whatever, at each moment of their vital and creative process, calls to them in each performance or project.

They aim to grasp a logic suspended in the flow of scenic consequence through which circus dramaturgy moves, finding coexistence and suitability between the artist’s communicative capacity, the stage experience and the coherence of what unfolds, freed from pre-established codes and without disparaging any aesthetic, framework for action or intent.
They aspire to be themselves, with transparency and honesty, making of their art, craft and life choice a synthesis of new ways of being professionally and vitally grounded throughout their existence.

To tear apart the rules of politically correct behaviour and to venture into paradoxical and unexpected situations from a position of privilege, with fragility and arrogance.

A barbaric, manipulative honesty that embraces the perverse balance of greed, wealth, power, fear and lies, moving from symbolism to the most pragmatic reality.
