El Conde de Torrefiel

Tanya Beyeler (Lugano, 1980) and Pablo Gisbert (Ontinyent, 1982) founded the company in Barcelona in 2010. Since its beginnings, El Conde de Torrefiel has stood out for an interdisciplinary approach that combines choreography, literature and visual and sound arts. Their performances create unusual landscapes and visual narratives in which tensions between the individual and the collective emerge, brought to the stage with both surprise and precision. This innovative approach has established the company as a pioneering reference in contemporary theatre, both nationally and internationally.

Since its creation, they have developed thirteen black-box works, as well as site-specific pieces, video creations, installations and theatrical audio guides for museums and non-conventional spaces. Among their most acclaimed creations are Escenas para una conversación después del visionado de una película de Michael Haneke, Guerrilla, La Plaza and ULTRAFICCIÓN nr.1 / Fracciones de tiempo.

The artistic work of Beyeler and Gisbert has been recognised with multiple awards, including two Barcelona Critics’ Awards: in 2018 for La Plaza and in 2022 for Una imagen interior. In 2021, Tanya Beyeler received the Swiss National Performing Arts Award.

For more than a decade, El Conde de Torrefiel has toured the main theatres and live arts festivals across Europe. Their work has been presented at Kunstenfestivaldesarts (Brussels), La Biennale di Venezia, Théâtre de Vidy–Lausanne, Wiener Festwochen (Vienna), Festival Grec de Barcelona, Festival d’Automne (Paris) and Festival d’Avignon, among others.

Residency February 2026

LEXIKON starts from a radical question: what defines us as human beings?
To answer it, El Conde de Torrefiel proposes a metaphor that is as poetic as it is essential: blood as language. Blood and language are understood as underground currents in constant motion, capable of transforming and transfusing; living archives of our essence and of time, and at the same time, oracles of the future.

The piece is structured as a symbolic transfusion on stage: just as blood carries life, oxygen and genetics, language conveys ideas, imaginaries and bonds. The spoken word activates a stage imaginary that explores human language as a vital substance that connects bodies and shapes the political and social body. Every transfusion —of blood or of words— can either heal or poison.

Through a sequence of tableaux vivants and a staging that unfolds and amplifies the central metaphor, LEXIKON tells fragments of lives and times and invites the audience into a sensory experience at the crossroads between theatre, choreography and sound art.
