Clara Cortés

Graduated in Fine Arts from the University of Barcelona (2013). From 2014 to 2018 she studied at the Academy of Circus and Performance Art (Fontys University) in Tilburg (NL).

With her background in visual arts, she brings innovative impulses to her productions in the field of contemporary circus, and shows a strong interest in new formats, the use of new technologies and hybrid stage forms.

She is co-founder of the circus company Efecto R, together with Martina Gunkel, and of It’s there around the corner (2017), a performance combining dance, circus, text and audience participation. She has worked with the dance and circus company Panama Pictures (NL) on the productions Urban Fiction (2017) and on the short piece After Midnight (2018).

Together with actress Gemma Sastre she created the piece És el moment (Tothom caga i tothom s’enamora) (2021), a monologue of text and movement, and with Ine Ubben (BE) Nice to meet you (2021), a solo performance in video-call format.

Recently, together with Mortiz Grenz, she premiered Hedonia (finalist project of Circus Next 2023), an interdisciplinary performance that combines contemporary circus, new technologies, video art, rap and electronic sound. She is currently developing Match, a contemporary circus and immersive theatre project (Residencies Award Institut del Teatre 2024, Osona venue), and Baby don’t hurt me, a project that is part of Hand to hand (an exploration of contemporary circus in public space that collectively questions the notion of social ecology).

Performer and co-creator of the performance Sklenka Melta (co-produced by Mercat de les Flors) by Vivian Friedrich.

Match

Residency January 2026

MATCH is an immersive theatre, video art and contemporary circus project in which the audience step onto the stage to live a love story. Do you know those intense conversations you can have with a stranger you meet on the train?

The nature of the project lies in the crossing of boundaries between disciplines, in their blending and dialogue, in the active participation of the audience and in the experimentation with unconventional formats. It explores themes of love, connection and intimacy from a personal and feminist perspective.
