Alexandre Duran Davins
Alexandre Duran Davins was born on February 17, 1997 in a small coastal town in Catalonia, Spain. Influenced by his father, a storyteller and bookseller, he trained in theater following the Stanislavski method and also devoted himself to disciplines such as martial arts and Tanztheater dance. At the age of nineteen, he joined the Rogelio Rivel circus school, where he began to specialize in the Chinese pole, a technique that would become the center of his art. Later, he continued his training at the Lyon Circus School, deepening his skills. Four years later, he was admitted to the ESAC (École Supérieure des Arts du Cirque de Brussel), where he graduated in 2023. Duran has participated in notable shows such as Sadiq Ali’s “The Chosen Haram”, presented at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, and has collaborated with artists such as Alexander Vantournhout. Currently, he is part of the company Salement Cirque, where he continues to explore and develop his passion for circus and performing arts.
Insula
Residence march 2025
INSULA, a creation by Alexandre Duran Davins, is a proposal that invites us to reflect on mental health and the constant friction that human beings experience in order to evolve. Inspired by the Greek concept of Pathei Mathos —“learning through suffering”—, the work explores how moments of emptiness and instability can become engines of personal growth. Through a classic mast structure transformed and limited to just three meters in height and off-axis, Duran redefines the conventional use of this circus apparatus. This deformation creates a space for experimentation that directly appeals to restlessness and imbalance, both physical and psychological. The constant tension of “fixing” the situation becomes a metaphor for the daily challenge of finding balance within chaos. INSULA is a visceral and poetic journey that speaks to what it means to be human, confronting the fragility and resilience that coexist within each of us. A piece that leaves no one indifferent and that opens a window into the complexity of the mind and emotions.
