Aina Roca
Aina Roca is an architect and scenographer whose practice moves between architecture, experimental research, teaching and stage creation. Trained at the University of Girona and holding a Master’s degree in Scenography from the HKU in Utrecht, she explores how space can activate the spectator’s imagination and become a dramaturgical engine in itself. As co-founder of the object theatre collective ellipsis.nu, she works with scale models, light, sound and movement as tools for building visual narratives. In her creative universe, the domestic, the remembered and the imagined coexist within a sensitive territory that opens the door to more speculative and poetic forms of perception.
El temps a través d’un forat
Residence July and August 2026
At El Canal, she presents El temps a través d’un forat (Time Through a Hole), a small-format stage exploration in which the scale model becomes the central axis of a visual and speculative dramaturgy. The piece starts from three childhood spaces —the cellar, the kitchen and the staircase leading to the attic in her grandparents’ house— and reconstructs them through memory, activating through light, sound and movement a narrative made of real and imagined memories. The proposal places domestic space at the centre as a site of memory, fiction and possibility, inviting the audience to look at the everyday as though it were the threshold to other realities.
The residency at El Canal is part of the project’s dramaturgical development and its research into the relationship between the piece, the scenic space and the audience. During the residency, the team will work with models, lighting and sound in an open phase of testing, making and remaking, before continuing the scenic assembly process.
