Contemporary theater workshop in verse

The company La Bella Otero proposes a 2-hour theoretical-practical workshop on contemporary dramaturgy in verse. After a quick review of the metrical forms of theater in verse using some classic and contemporary examples, the workshop will offer tools and exercises so that attendees can jump into verse writing.

What is needed?

• A fragment of a play in verse. It is preferable that the fragment is a monologue or a soliloquy.
• A notebook or laptop for writing.
• A device with Internet access.

Who will teach the workshop?

Pablo Macho Otero is a playwright, director and actor. Graduated in Hispanic Philology from the University of Barcelona, ​​he has trained at the Nancy Tuñón Studio in Barcelona, ​​at the Jacques Lecoq International School in Paris and at the Obrador de la Sala Beckett, with authors such as Jordi Oriol , Alfredo Sanzol, Javier Daulte or Sergio Blanco, among many others.

After going through the creation laboratory “Els Malnascuts” at Sala Beckett and having participated in collective creations such as Esquerdes (Sala Beckett / Nau Ivanow, 2014), Odisseus (Sala Beckett, 2016-17), Si au si (Festival Temporada Alta, 2016) or La Trinxera (Sala Flyhard, 2017), he was selected as a member of Studio Europeén, an international gathering of young playwrights organized by Enzo Cormann at La Chartreuse (Centre national des écritures du spectacle).

In 2018, he received the Premio Novel Internacional de Poesía Universitaria Miguel Hernández for his first poetry collection ZOE antilogía.

After two years training in Paris, in 2020 he returned to Barcelona and, with the actress Emma Arquillué and the scenographer Yaiza Ares, founded the company La Bella Otero, in which he alternated the roles of playwright, director, translator and actor. Prosopopeya (Teatre Lliure, 2025), in residence at the Canal, is the company’s fifth show. It is preceded by Enterrando a Dodot (La Gleva, 2021 / Premi D’Ensayo 2022 of Theater and Science of Zaragoza City Council), Loco Amoris (Tantarantana, 2021 / Teatro Lara, 2022 / Sala Versus, 2023), George Kaplan by Frédéric Sonntag (Tantarantana, 2023) and A Fuego (La Gleva, 2023 / La Villarroel, 2024/2025 / La Abadía, 2025).

His latest commission has been the versification of the new adaptation of Molière’s The Misanthrope (Greek Festival / Teatre Lliure, 2024) directed by David Selvas.
