Africa is the continent of orality. It is through oral traditions that we can reconstitute the history of deep Africa, real Africa. It is that collective oral memory that has safeguarded the worldview of their ancestors until today. How, then, to study the kora and the korafola (what makes the kora speak) through history and time? The kora as a cultural object and testimony of different civilizations, and the korafola as a social actor, without forgetting that one cannot be functional without the other.
Momi Maiga will give us an organological description of the kora as well as the explanation of what a korafola is, historical and sociological aspects, scales and tuning modes, popular repertoire, learning method and technique of performing the Kora.
During this session, Momi Maiga will share his artistic career and experiences as a musician, offering a deep insight into his creative process and the influences that have influenced his work. This meeting will allow participants to interact directly with the artist, ask questions and discuss both technical and artistic aspects of his music. It is a unique opportunity to learn first-hand from an outstanding musician in his field.
